Grant Guidelines: Artist’s Resource Trust (A.R.T.) for Individuals

Artist’s Resource Trust was established in 1996 to provide grants to talented mid-career visual artists who have demonstrated substantial commitment and who have a financial need. A.R.T. supports artists (aged 35 or older) living in New England, or Columbia or Northeast Dutchess Counties, NY.

Since 1996, annual contributions to A.R.T. have made the grant awards possible. Now the A.R.T. Fund is building an endowment so that its work can continue in perpetuity. If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution to the A.R.T. Endowment, please do by going to www.berkshiretaconic.org/makeadonation.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be professional New England, or Columbia County or Northeast Dutchess County visual artists in the media of painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography or mixed media who have a financial need.
  • Applicants must have resided in the eligible areas for more than two years prior to making an application.
  • Artists who have received an award from A.R.T. may reapply no fewer than eight years from the date of their previous award.
  • Awards

Grants awarded range from $1,500 to $10,000. They can be applied toward any expense that may enhance the artist’s ability to create his/her work. Awards are counted as income and artists are responsible for all applicable taxes. Berkshire Taconic will file a 1099 with the Internal Revenue Service in December recording each award.

    Notification

Applicants will be informed of Berkshire Taconic’s decision by December 31st.

    Review Criteria

Applications will be reviewed according to the following criteria:

  • Quality of the artist’s work
  • Financial need
