Director, Center for Nonprofit Excellence
Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation seeks a part-time (3 days per week) director to oversee its newly formed Center for Nonprofit Excellence. The mission of the Center is to strengthen area nonprofit organizations so that they can better achieve their mission and improve the quality of life in our region. The director reports to Berkshire Taconic's president and works in concert with other members of the foundation's management team.
Key Components of the Center for Nonprofit Excellence
Seminars for Excellence in Nonprofit Management
Each year, the Center offers a series of high-quality, affordable workshops to help nonprofits achieve greater proficiency in management and operations.
Nonprofit Learning Program
Led by a consultant, this is an intensive, six-week program providing intensive management and board training to competitively selected nonprofits.
"Stronger Futures" Capacity-Building Program
"Stronger Futures" is a new 18-month program, led by consultants, that provides organizational assessment, training, and evaluation services to competitively selected nonprofit groups serving our region.
Nonprofit Resource
The Center is an information resource to nonprofit organizations, offering a library and FC Search, an on-line database of national funding sources.
Community Initiatives
The Center serves as a portal for nonprofit groups interested in Berkshire Taconic’s fiscal sponsorship for community initiatives.
Responsibilities
Scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks:Overall
- Manage the involvement of the CNE's advisory committee
Seminars for Excellence in Nonprofit Management
- Develop a list of topics of speakers
- Schedule seminars and reserve venues
- Work with communications director to promote seminars
- Develop and monitor budget
- Attend seminars to sign people in, introduce the seminar and evaluate the presenters
Nonprofit Learning Program
- Create the program and application guidelines
- Develop and monitor budget
- Set dates with consultant
- Oversee preparation of handout materials
- Attend the seminars to sign people in, introduce the seminar and evaluate the program
- Create evaluation forms and assessment tools
- Compile results of the participants' evaluation forms
"Stronger Futures" Capacity-Building Program
- Serve as liaison between Berkshire Taconic, the consultant and the program participants
- Monitor budget
- Coordinate meetings, roundtable discussions, and individual consultancies for participants
- Administer application process
Nonprofit Resource
- Serve as primary contact for questions regarding nonprofit related issues
- Maintain and build reference library
- Maintain the Center's online database, FC Search
Community Initiatives
- Serve as primary contact for questions regarding fiscal sponsorship
- Administer application process
- Monitor and manage review and administration process
Qualifications
In addition to having excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, the successful candidate will be:- Experienced in nonprofit management, development and governance
- Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Imaginative and a creative problem-solver
- Attentive to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Able to work well with a wide range of personalities
- Skillful in written and oral communication
- Commited to confidentiality and discretion
Experience
- Minimum 5 years nonprofit management experience
- Proven history of taking projects for conceptualization to implementation
Education
Bachelor's degree required
Compensation
Salary is competitive and commensurate with background and experience
