May 1 Deadline for Public Service Award

GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—The Margery and William Barrett Public Service Award for Adams, Cheshire and Savoy, MA is accepting nominations through May 1.

Nominations are sought for individuals who have a strong community commitment, a generous spirit and make a significant contribution to the towns of Adams, Cheshire or Savoy, MA by breaking new ground or improving the economic, educational, civic, cultural or social fabric of the community through paid or volunteer work. This award was established in 2000 to commemorate the extraordinary generosity of Margery Barrett, who gave over $3 million to the communities of Adams, Cheshire and Savoy. Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of local residents. Criteria for the award includes leadership, perseverance and innovation as well as the impact of the nominee’s work on the community. The selected nominee will designate a nonprofit organization to receive a cash award of $500 in his or her name.

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation builds stronger communities and improves the quality of life for all residents of Berkshire County, MA; Columbia County and northeast Dutchess County, NY; and northwest Litchfield County, CT. Thanks to its generous donors, in 2009 Berkshire Taconic distributed nearly $7 million in scholarships and grants for programs in the arts and education, health and human services, and environmental protection. Berkshire Taconic is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization.
