David McCarthy Joins Berkshire Taconic Board

GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation announced today that David F. McCarthy of Stockbridge, MA has joined its board of directors. Mr. McCarthy joins 20 other community residents on Berkshire Taconic’s board.
David F. McCarthy has been a resident of Stockbridge for 29 years. He is currently Chief Investment Officer, Absolute Return Strategies, of Sciens Capital Management, a $6.0B alternative asset management firm based in New York City. He previously managed Martello Investment Management, LP, a specialist fund of funds and advisory firm, and has served in various investment and management roles with Global Asset Management, the Atlantic Philanthropies, Rayner and Stonington, Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., and McKinsey & Co. Mr. McCarthy taught finance and investments at Skidmore College and the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) in the U.S., and University College Dublin in Ireland. He is a contributor to the Greenwich Roundtable “Best Practices in Hedge Fund Investing” series, and is the author of a number of academic articles on managed futures. He currently serves on the Advisory Boards of New York University’s Glucksman Ireland House and the Berkshire Fringe Festival, and he is on the Board of Directors of the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Alternative Investments. Mr. McCarthy holds a Ph.D. from University College Dublin, an MBA from Stanford University, and a BA from the University of New Hampshire.

Mr. McCarthy joins Bill Dunlaevy, Edward Hoe, Charles P. O’Brien, Tony Sheldon, Virginia Stanton Smith, and John Hoyt Stookey as Berkshire Taconic board members from Berkshire County. Board members also include Sally Berg, Carmi Rapport, Andrew Vickery and Vera Weintraub of Columbia County, NY; Sia Arnason, Gloria Callen, Christopher Kennan, Holly Nelson, Sarah Stack and Nancy Stahl of northeast Dutchess County, NY; and Ann Goodbody, Neil McCarthy, David Rich and fellow new board member Catherine Tatge of northwest Litchfield County, CT.
