James and Robert Hardman Fund for North Adams
The James and Robert Hardman Fund for North Adams serves to enrich the lives of residents of North Adams and neighboring Florida and Clarksburg, MA, and Stamford, VT. It supports projects that cover all aspects of these communities, including the arts and culture, historic preservation, health, human and social services, education and the environment.
The families of James A. Hardman, Jr. (1909–1990) and Robert Hardman (1911–1978) established this fund in 2000 to honor the memory of these two outstanding citizens who were passionately committed to their hometown of North Adams.
Descendants of the earliest settlers of the North Adams area, the Hardman family owned and published The North Adams Transcript for more than 100 years. James and Robert were the last family members to carry on this long and honorable tradition. Both men were devoted to their families and committed to the welfare of the residents of northern Berkshire County.
