Hammertown Stores to Benefit Fund for Columbia County and Northeast Dutchess Fund

November 1, 2006

Great Barrington, MA — From November 11-18, Hammertown Barn will donate 10 percent of sales to two charitable funds that serve the local area: the Northeast Dutchess Fund and the Fund for Columbia County. All three Hammertown Barn stores, located in Pine Plains, Rhinebeck and Great Barrington, will participate (www.hammertown.com).

Joan Osofsky, the owner of the Hammertown stores, said, "I’m thrilled that the Hammertown Barn is able to support these two funds. I am a huge supporter of Berkshire Taconic and the wonderful things their funds do to help support community projects and programs.” Hammertown Barn features a unique collection of goods, including jewelry, gift baskets, and a wide array of antiques and home furnishings.

“We are extremely lucky to live in an area where local businesses are so supportive of our community,” said Sally Berg, chair of the Fund for Columbia County and Berkshire Taconic board member.

The Fund for Columbia County and the Northeast Dutchess Fund were established and are supported by members of the community, with local residents reviewing applications and awarding grants to nonprofit groups whose work improves the quality of life in the region. Thanks to the generosity of their donors, recent grants have supported a shelter for women and children in the town of North East, expansion of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, community programs at the Hudson Opera House, a Saturday story hour for children at the Germantown Library, and numerous other not- for- profit organizations.

The Northeast Dutchess Fund and the Fund for Columbia County are endowments of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation builds stronger communities and improves the quality of life for all residents of the region it serves: Berkshire County, MA; Columbia County and northeast Dutchess County, NY; and northwest Litchfield County, CT. Each year we help thousands of donors achieve their philanthropic vision and hundreds of nonprofit organizations carry on their good work.
