Can you share an overview of your role at BTCF?
As a Community Engagement Officer at Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, my role is to serve as a connector. I link the foundation to two key area funds—Fund for the Northwest Corner and Northeast Dutchess Fund—while also bridging these funds with the local grantee partners. Additionally, I foster connections among organizations, encouraging collaboration to enhance, expand, and develop more comprehensive services for the community.
Beyond relationship-building, my responsibilities include managing the administrative aspects of grantmaking and advising nonprofit development directors on potential funding opportunities. Community Engagement Officers also play a crucial role in connecting donors to causes that both strengthen the community and align with their charitable giving plans.
In addition, as the lead staff member for BTCF’s Center for Nonprofit Excellence Fund, I help organize workshops for nonprofit leaders and board members, helping to strengthen our local nonprofit sector.
What unique strengths and needs currently exist in the counties you work with?
The challenges facing rural areas are often universal—transportation, affordable housing, healthcare, food security, and sustaining a dynamic economy by keeping younger generations engaged and employed in the area.
In both counties where I work, the area funds are deeply invested in the nonprofit community. Grantmaking dollars support a wide range of organizations that provide essential services, from addressing basic needs to enriching the community through the arts.
Ultimately, the greatest strengths of these communities are their dedication and deep concern for one another
In your time with BTCF, is there a memory or accomplishment that is especially meaningful to you?
Celebrating the holidays with our network of partners—including board members, staff, donors, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and volunteers—is a wonderful opportunity to come together and recognize all that we accomplish beyond our daily work.
What interests do you have outside of work?
Outside of work, I spend much of my time with family and friends—often over a great meal or a walk with our dogs. I enjoy hiking, yoga, and traveling, as well as exploring my passions for architecture and photography. I’m also drawn to the world of storytelling, whether through independent films or live theater. I also share my life with one wonderfully mischievous black lab named Romeo, whose playfulness brings me endless joy. When it comes to treats, nothing beats the best bones in town from Freund’s in East Canaan, Conn., and maybe the key lime pie he got into last weekend!
